ზოგადი ინფორმაცია

General Information:

·        Materials for laboratory testing are accepted daily from 09:30 to 16:00 (on Saturdays from 09:30 to 14:00). It is recommended to take blood samples in the morning (between 09:30 and 11:00).

·         For the biological material collection, please refer to the staff for the necessary container and instructions.

·         To receive laboratory services, patient consent must be confirmed with a signature.

·         Fasting is essential for certain tests. Fasting means a minimum of 8 hours (in some cases, 12 hours) without food after the last meal.

·         Tests that must be done while fasting: lipid profile, glucose.

·         Tests recommended to be done while fasting: kidney function tests, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, liver function tests, uric acid, total protein, transferrin, and others.

·         Do not consume alcohol before a blood test, as even small doses can cause changes in the body that lead to errors in the results.

·         If you take any medication regularly and it can be stopped a few days before the test, be sure to inform your doctor.

Preparation for Lipid Profile Test:

A 12-hour fasting period is required. During this time, the patient may only drink water.

Glucose in Blood

Fasting:

Before blood collection, the patient should not consume any food or beverages, except for water, for at least 8 hours before the sample is taken.

 After Eating:

The blood sample should be taken exactly 2 hours after the meal is finished. For example, if the patient finishes breakfast at 10:00 AM, the blood sample should be taken exactly at 12:00 PM. It is recommended that the patient arrive at the laboratory 10-15 minutes early to avoid waiting during registration and ensure the blood sample is taken exactly 2 hours after the meal, without delay. During the 2-hour period, the patient may drink water and, if necessary, only take the medications prescribed by the doctor. No food or drinks (other than water) are allowed during this time.

Glucose Tolerance Test:

A fasting period of 8 hours is required (no food or drinks, except for water). The first sample should be taken while fasting. Afterward, the patient will drink a glucose solution, and subsequent samples must be taken exactly 1 and 2 hours after the glucose solution is consumed. During this time, no food or drinks (other than water) are allowed.

General Urine Analysis:

  • Before providing a urine sample, the patient should avoid consuming certain foods or medications (such as beets, vitamin B, phenazopyridine, rifampicin, phenytoin) that may cause discoloration of the urine.
  • It is not recommended to collect the sample during the menstrual cycle.
  • Exercise should be avoided before collecting the sample.
  • Urine should be collected after thoroughly cleaning the genital area.
  • The container should be sterile.
  • The minimum amount of urine required for analysis is 10 mL.
  • The collected sample should be delivered to the laboratory within 2 hours.

Midstream Sample:

  • Urine should be collected in a sterile container after thoroughly cleaning the genital area and urinating the first portion of urine.
  • The minimum amount of urine required for analysis is 10 mL.
  • The collected sample should be delivered to the laboratory within 2 hours.

Pediatric Sample Collection:

  • After hygiene procedures (to avoid contamination from the skin or fecal matter), open the collector and place it accordingly:
    • For boys: Place the collector on the genital area and secure it with adhesive tape.
    • For girls: Attach the collector to the outer genital area using adhesive tape. The collector should not remain on for more than 1 hour, and the collected material should be sent to the laboratory immediately for further testing.

Fecal Sample - Primary Collection Instructions:

  • Before fecal analysis, it is not recommended to take medications such as laxatives, iron supplements, or rectal suppositories.
  • For occult blood testing, the patient should not consume meat, fish, or green vegetables 3 days prior to the collection.
  • If the purpose of the test is to assess food digestion, the composition of the food should be carefully selected and prepared in advance.
  • The stool should be collected in a clean, dry container.
  • The stool sample should not be mixed with urine or discharge from the genital area.
  • For infants under one year, the sample should be collected from draw sheets that have been disinfected with 70°C alcohol (samples collected in diapers will not be accepted). The sample should be transported to the laboratory within 1-2 hours.

Occult Blood Testing:

It is important to note the following:

  • Samples from patients with bleeding hemorrhoids or those who have provided material during their menstrual cycle should not be used.
  • Excessive alcohol consumption, as well as treatment with aspirin, phenylbutazone, corticosteroids, and reserpine, can provoke bleeding. Therefore, the use of these medications should be discontinued at least 2 days before the test.

Bacteriological Stool Analysis (Qualitative and Quantitative Study of Gut Microflora):

  • It is preferable to collect the sample before starting any antibacterial treatment. Laxatives, vaseline, castor oil, and rectal suppositories should be discontinued 3-4 days prior to sample collection.
  • The sample should be collected in a sterile container. Only freshly passed stool (do not use an enema) is suitable for the test.
  • It is advisable to urinate before defecating to avoid mixing urine with stool.
  • For infants under one year, the sample should be taken from a draw sheet  that has been disinfected with 70°C alcohol (samples brought in diapers will not be accepted). The sample must be transported to the laboratory within 1-2 hours.

Genital Swab Bacteriology:

  • It is preferable to collect the sample before starting antimicrobial therapy. The sample is taken by the treating physician using a sterile swab.
  • Prior to sample collection, the doctor’s recommendations should be followed (e.g., discontinuing medications, withholding urination, performing prior provocations, massage, etc.).

Bacteriological Study of the Oral Cavity, Throat, Nasal Cavity, and Ear:

  • It is preferable to collect the sample before starting antibacterial therapy or at least 24 hours after the last dose of the medication.
  • The sample from the oral cavity should be taken in the morning before eating or 2-3 hours after eating. The patient should not brush their teeth, chew gum, or use any mouthwash prior to collection.
  • The sample from the throat should be taken in the morning before eating or 2-3 hours after eating.
  • Before collecting a sample from the ear or nose, the patient should not have used any ear or nasal drops.

Bacteriological Study of Sputum:

  • Sputum collection should be done before starting antibacterial therapy or after a certain interval following the last dose of medication.
  • The sputum sample should be collected in the morning on an empty stomach, after brushing teeth and rinsing the mouth with boiled water, during a coughing episode. The sample should be placed in a sterile container.
  • The sample must be sent to the laboratory for analysis within 1-2 hours after collection.

Bacteriological Study of Breast Milk:

  • After cleaning the nipples and the surrounding area of the breast, and thoroughly sanitizing with a 70°C alcohol swab (using separate swabs for each breast), the first portion of expressed milk (5-10 mL) is discarded. The next portion (3-4 mL) should be collected in a sterile container.
  • The collected sample must be sent to the laboratory for analysis within 1 hour of collection.

Bacteriological Study of Blood:

·         Blood collection should be done during the onset of fever or at the beginning of chills. It is preferable to collect the sample before starting antibacterial therapy or at least 24 hours after the last dose of medication, depending on the stage of the disease.
